Founded in 1950, Guizhou People's Broadcasting Station and Guizhou Television Station, established in 1968, are the mainstream media promoting and publicizing Guizhou. With the deepening of cultural system reform nationwide, they have spurred and accelerated the integration of Guizhou's broadcasting and television resource advantages. During the integration of broadcasting and television resources, the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government also set the goal of creating a 10 billion yuan enterprise in Guizhou's broadcasting and television sector by the end of the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan." From 2013 to 2015, efforts will be made to push for the listing of both companies.

Chen Yiqin, the Minister of the Propaganda Department of the Guizhou Provincial Committee, stated that the merger of the two broadcasting and television stations is an important measure taken by the Guizhou Provincial Committee and Provincial Government to implement the central government's directives on deepening cultural system reform. It is a significant decision to promote the great development and prosperity of culture in Guizhou Province.

It is understood that Guizhou People's Broadcasting Station has 7 frequencies and one website, while Guizhou Television Station has 10 channels and one website, with listening and viewing rates ranking first in the local broadcasting and television industry. After the merger of Guizhou Television Station and Guizhou People's Broadcasting Station, the separation of production and broadcasting will be achieved.
