Harmonic Inc. (NASDAQ: HLIT) today announced that Canadian cable provider Source Cable has deployed the Harmonic NSG 9000 HectoQAM™ at its headend, enabling cable providers to increase the speed of their internet/data services and add new video on demand (VOD) services. By leveraging the highly scalable HectoQAM, Source Cable can achieve significant cost savings, delivering data, as well as HD and SD video on demand services, from a single, unified edge QAM chassis.

Daryl Chandler, Vice President of Operations and General Manager at Source Cable, stated, “Our powerful edge QAM system gives us a competitive edge in meeting the ever-growing bandwidth demands of our users for video on demand and high-speed internet services.” He added, “The flexible Harmonic HectoQAM solution and its efficient design will allow us to enhance data, video, and future video on demand services while maintaining the highest standards of video quality, which is exactly what our users expect.”

“Harmonic's industry leadership, with over 2 million QAM channels deployed worldwide, makes it an easy choice as a trusted partner for Source Cable,” said Jill Katz, Vice President of Cable Solutions at Harmonic.

The Harmonic HectoQAM solution provides cable television services with up to 648 QAM RF channels, including high-speed internet, video on demand, switched digital video (SDV), and video broadcasting. With a 2 RU form factor and low power consumption per QAM channel, HectoQAM offers a highly dense and flexible solution for Source Cable's network streaming content. By utilizing the DOCSIS 3.0 and modular CMTS downstream data transmission standards, cable providers can now offer faster data and internet services, more channel bundles, and enhanced video and video on demand services.
