As a leader in portable HD video cellular solutions, LiveU will showcase its compact and lightweight LU40 broadcast media uplink device at IBC2012, featuring LiveU's proprietary internal antenna for added flexibility in areas with poor cellular network coverage. The LU40-S offers a rich set of features for live news interviews, including: low-latency interview mode, local characteristics and functionality storage, forward-looking file transfer (FTP), video and audio metrics, less than one minute boot-up time, and control capabilities from its touchscreen, server, or any web-enabled mobile device.
LiveU's proprietary built-in antennas provide enhanced connectivity. The antennas and modems support a wide range of cellular and Wi-Fi frequencies, including 4G LTE, ensuring improved signal performance for remote reception and transmission capabilities. The LU40-S, the latest addition to the LU40 product line, follows the launch of the LU40i at last year's IBC2011.

DeBrosse, the Assistant News Director, said, “For me, the best part is that my staff loves it; everyone wants to use it because of its simplicity. Its setup is the ultimate breaking news tool, especially in urban areas where there is strong community coverage.” The LU40-S can also be connected to LiveU's recently announced external antenna to provide enhanced network reception in extreme situations, such as in heavily crowded places. With built-in support for remote external antennas, the LU40-S handheld device can support up to 13 network connections. LiveU's CEO, Samuel Wasserman, stated, “We will continue to drive technological innovation; our powerful antennas in the cellular transmission space and the handheld LU40-S device represent an important milestone. The LU40-S, combined with the professional-grade mission-critical coverage of the LU70 backpack, allows news teams to send live images from the scene using a very stable, portable, and cost-effective uplink device. Thousands of LiveU units cover global headlines and events every day.”
Based on Liveu's recognized bonded uplink technology, the LU40 provides reliable high-definition video live streaming in a highly compact mobile device weighing less than 700 grams (1.5 pounds). Small enough to clip onto a camera operator's belt or be mounted on the camera's mobile device itself. The network media version, LU40i, has been enhanced to support major CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) and OVPs (Online Video Platforms), creating an end-to-end video live streaming solution.
"Woserman added, 'Through our integration with CDN and OVP partners, we have seen the tremendous potential of the LU40i. Our business scope has expanded into the online media market, providing customers with a one-stop solution for real-time video capture, transmission, and delivery.'"
